An RIP to the ODB

I actually liked the music that ODB came out with. A lot of my teenage years were spent listening to ODB remixes of music by Mariah Carey.

The meeting last night on Linden Ave was pretty interesting. One of the controling interests of a halfway house, a soon to open halfway house, a 90% completed house, and three abandoned houses was the topic of conversation. He was requesting a zoning change on one of his properties (the one 90% completed) from one unit to two units. We are opposed, wrote in e-mails. Well, he was angry that we would oppose his plans. However, I don't have any sympathy for this person. Anyone that allows a house to get 90% done into two units without applying for a zoning change deserves this. His excuse: I got the house as part of a settlement with former business partners. This man owns other abandoned houses on this street, plus he has turned two other properties into transitional housing. One is tollerable, two is too many, three is dangerous. It is not that the Linden Tree people and the Techbalt people are trying to be bad neighbors, we are just going after ALL the problems on the block. The trash, the people driving 60 MPH up and down the street, etc. This is a multipronged approach, that utilizes other neighbors. Some of what goes on is steathly, some of it is in the open eyes of the public. This one person is either the owner or controling interest in "five or six" properties on the block. He is part of the problem, not the solution. Leaving properties abandoned for 2+ years is not responsible. The fact that this individual believes that by being secretive, he will get by us, won't work. We now have a critical mass of individuals that care about this block.

Oh yes, and for some entertainment value:

You are Mary Bell.
You are Mary Bell. At the ripe old age of 10 you
strangled a neighbor boy, afterwhich you carved
your initals into his skin. At his funreal you
laughed. Your next victim was a 3 year old. You
pushed him off the roof, resulting in a broken
skull. After he was found you went to his
mothers house and asked to see him, she replied
tha t he was dead. You smiled brightly and said
'Oh, I know he's dead. I wanted to see him in
his coffin."
You horrid little girl you.
-smacks your hand-
